SUMMARY:Log Processing Day 4/3/23
DESCRIPTION:The Development Trust\, following our successful log processing day last year would like to have another day on 4th March producing firewood logs for sale to raise funds to support the development of the woodland. \n\n\n\nIf you would be interested in helping on the day\, please contact logs@ccdt.org.uk. We need 6 volunteers to run the day \n\n\n\nLog Processing\n\n\n\nThe work to split logs can be quite physical and each individual needs to take great care of their own and other health and safety as we are working with powerful pieces of machinery which have the potential to cause serious injury.  Having said that the equipment is well maintained and suitably guarded so as long as users follow instructions there will be no problems.  It is important to wear the correct clothing.  Strong boots or wellingtons are needed\, preferably with steel tow caps if possible.  A good pair of gloves is essential\, we have some gloves but if you have a good fitting pair then this might be best.  We will supply a forestry helmet with visor and ear defenders\, also safety glasses are available if required.  Long trousers and a long-sleeved shirt will also be preferable and a light waterproof in case of inclement weather.  Refreshments and lunch will be supplied and although the work is outdoors\, there is shelter available if required. \n\n\n\nLogs will be transported to the splitter by tractor and may be pre-split or cut if too thick or long to lift.  These smaller logs need to be lifted onto the saw bench and cut to length with a large circular saw.  The short lengths are then split with a hydraulic log splitter and fed onto a conveyor belt to be delivered into storage bags (either large or small).  Some help may be required to load logs into people’s cars if required. Hopefully we will be able to rotate people so that you do not spend too long without a break and if we get the right number of volunteers this will help. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur logs have been seasoning over last summer. Large bags as below will be £70.00 per bag smaller quantities will also be available at £10.00 per bag. DESCRIPTION:Christmas Crafts in the Woods \nSunday\, 04th December ’22\n1.30 – 3.30pm\nMeet us at the Tennis courts near Polmaise Castle \nOn this national ‘tree dressing day’ we will celebrate our trees in Cambusbarron woods.  We will create simple decorations using woodland materials.  Take your creations home or hang them in the woods to create a festive cheer for all. \nPlease let us know if you are coming:\nwoodland@ccdt.org.uk \nHot drinks will be provided.\nBring your own mug.\nCome prepared with sensible footwear and warm\, waterproof clothing. \nDon’t know where the Tennis Courts are? DESCRIPTION:Come along to the woodland for the volunteer day this Saturday at 10am\nThe planned activities are :- \nWalled Garden -meet at the walled garden at 10am\n \n\nPreparing growing areas within the old\ngreenhouse bases.\nCollecting loose bricks for\nreuse.\nClearing vegetation.\nRepositioning the IBC\nMulching the yew hedge.\n\n  \nOpportunity to drink tea and have a natter and discuss the way forward \n\nLily Pond Project -meet at the mushroom carving on  the Castle Drive at 10am\nThis project is to reinstate the Lily Pond by\ninitially… \n \n\nRemoving the rhododendron ponticum\nand coppice scrub willow up to 15m\nfrom pond edge.\nRemoving all woody vegetation from\nwithin the pond\n\n\nCastle Gardens -meet at the Castle Garden at 10am\nJobs will include clearing of brash and rubbish\, general tidying up of the gardens. \nPlease bring gloves and wear suitable clothing.  Bring your own saws or  loppers if you have them. \nIf you need further information\, or if you are not able to walk far and need help to get up to the Castle gardens\, please contact aldo@ccdt.org.uk \n\nThere are always plenty of other jobs needing done if anyone would like to help with them\, please contact woodland@ccdt.org.uk
