Dark Woods Update 17 Oct 2025

Harvesting work to the Dark Woods will commence on Monday 20th October, and is expected to take around 3-4 weeks. Timber extraction and removal from site may take a further few weeks after this, depending on the availability of haulage. All being well the works will be fully completed before Christmas.

Ian Robb Timber Harvesting specialise in constrained and sensitive sites, and the Trust and TreeStory are working closely with their operators to ensure that damage to paths and other sensitive areas is minimised where possible. However, the nature of forestry work means that some impact is unavoidable. We plan to fully reinstate access through the Dark Woods for the community as soon as possible following completion of the works, and leave a clear site ready for replanting.

Timber is planned to be extracted and stacked at the Woodland Base, and continually removed from site via the access track to Polmaise Road. As a result vehicles may be moving between Polmaise Road and the Walled Garden/Woodland Base at any time during weekdays.

Safety signage and exclusion zones will be in place as required, however for everyone’s safety, we request that members of the public avoid the area around the Dark Woods and Walled Garden access track for the duration of the works.

If you need to pass in the vicinity of any harvesting/extraction/haulage works, please make sure you have attracted the attention of the operator and follow their advice/instructions at all times.

For safety reasons DO NOT climb on timber stacks, and beware of hazards underfoot (ruts, boggy areas, heavy brash etc).
