Firewood club is for CCDT members who either have a need for firewood for domestic use or would just like some exercise and company, and would also like to help out the charity from time to time.
Volunteer
We have a supply of wood ready for splitting in Gillies Hill and intend to offer the opportunity for people to come along to help us process this and prepare it for sale. If you take part in this activity then you will be able to take home some of the wood you process as a reward for your help.
Firewood supply
The excess firewood which we process is stored for seasoning and then bagged up into small net bags and offered for sale to CCDT members. We want to make this available to our community members so will offer local delivery, or pickup at agreed times from the walled garden. We will deliver to anyone in the development trust membership area*
The wood
The wood will be supplied in small net bags (52 x 85cm or 1’8” x 2’10”).
It is air dried and with a low moisture content which we can tell you take delivery.
The wood will be a mix of hard and softwood of various sizes and cut to around 27cm (10 ½”) long to be suitable for most log burners.

Frequently Asked Questions
What sort of wood is it?
The wood is mixed hardwood and softwood or various types. It might include larch, birch, ash, willow, yew and anything else which grows and falls over in the woodland. We do not differentiate but try to mix what you get in a bag. It is cut to roughly 27cm in length.
Is it kiln dried / how is it seasoned?
The wood is air dried only. We do not kiln dry any of our wood. We try and maintain moisture to below 20% but in the winter this is difficult. We have a plentiful supply of seasoned wood at the moment.
We recommend that you store your wood under cover and only burn it when you are satisfied with the moisture content.
How big are the bags of wood?
This is what they look like. They are just the size so one person can lift a bag and we can deliver from a normal car. Their weight does vary but on average they are about 14kg.
How much wood can I order?
We reserve the right to limit supply if we are running short of seasoned wood. We encourage you to order little and often (maybe 4 bags at a time) rather than all at once, but understand that some people like to stock up at the beginning of winter.
How much is the wood and how can I pay?
I bag of split wood | £6.00 |
Local delivery (up to 4 bags) | £5.00 |
We can accept payment by bank transfer, cash or card but we prefer bank transfer as this is secure and quick and automatically gives you a receipt for your payment. Please pay for your wood once you have taken delivery and contact logs@ccdt.org.uk for the bank details.
