Tree safety work starts shortly on three of our largest specimens which show some signs of ill health and weather damage.
Firstly our Dead Monkey Puzzle on Castle Drive : although standing dead trees present important habitat potential the position of this standing dead tree presents a significant hazard to woodland users so shall be removed entirely.
In addition works will commence with bat and ecology survey on 15 March on two other trees. This will be performed by tree climbers using endoscopes to check for roosting bats. Following this survey work precautions will be adopted prior to as follows;
Lily Pond Beech: if no roosting bats crown reduction to remove dying branches and encourage regrow to from base.
Monster Scots Pine: removal of dead and hanging branches and balancing to ensure long term tree health.
